What is a PDU® ?

The PDU® is the measuring unit used to quantify approved learning and professional service activities. These activities must be related to Project Management topics that are substantially consistent with the knowledge areas and processes as outlined by the PMBOK® Guide and involve appropriate expert resources. Typically, one PDU® is earned for every one hour spent in a planned, structured learning experience or activity.

Each PMP® must satisfy the PMI® Continuing Certification Requirements Program in order to maintain the PMP® Certification. PMPs® are required to obtain no less than 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs®) within a three years cycle and agree to continue to adhere to PMI’s® Project Management Professional Code of professional conduct. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways including completing project management related training. Successful completion of each PTC’s training session contributes to achievement of seven PDUs® units a day.
